23rd annual Rubber Duckie Race (July 4)

MEDIA RELEASE

The fun begins at 11 a.m. at Kings’ Shops with loads of free activities, an exciting live entertainment lineup and of course delicious food.

Merriman’s Mediterranean Cafe’s Annual Watermelon Eating Contest will be followed by a cook off hosted by Chef Ippy Aiona of The Three Fat Pigs’ Restaurant and Gastropub. Race time is 3 p.m. and will be followed by the infamously hilarious Duck Waddling and Duck Calling contests hosted once again by The Great Barusky.

For the past 23 years, Kings’ Shops has hosted the Rubber Duckie Race and event to raise funds for the United Cerebral Palsy Association (UCPA) of Hawaii.

Between the first week of June and July 4, adoption certificates will be available at Adoption Headquarters, the Kings’ Shops Management Office.

Mail-in order forms will be available at various locations as well as online at www.KingsShops.com

Adoption certificates will be available for donations of $5 per duck, or in Quack Packs which are four adoption certificates and a duckie T-shirt for a $25 donation. All proceeds from duck adoptions go to the United Cerebral Palsy Association (UCPA) of Hawaii.

The adopted rubber duckies are tagged with waterproof tickets that have the adoption certificate numbers along with the names of the adoptees and are placed into a giant starting cage suspended over the lake.

At exactly 3 p.m. thousands of rubber duckies are released and make their way across Kings’ Lake.

The first 50 duckies who cross the finish line each win one of the 50 prizes which total more than $25,000.
