A 45-foot sailboat remained grounded Monday evening off Kailua-Kona.

Emergency crews were alerted shortly before midnight that the vessel named “Seaquel” was taking on water.

When rescue crews arrived, they found two boaters – a man and a woman from California – had swum to shore. No injuries were reported.

Authorities reported the vessel had approximately 5 gallons of fuel on board, but was not leaking.

County fire and police, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and the Coast Guard were notified.

Efforts to recover the boat, which is about 100 feet off shore, may begin as soon as Tuesday to prevent further damage to the coral reef.
