Police DUI stats for the week of May 5-11, 2014

During the week of May 5, 2014, through May 11, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 465 DUI arrests compared with 481 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 586 major accidents so far this year compared with 499 during the same period last year, an increase of 17.4 percent.

So far this year, there have been five traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, a decrease of 61.5 percent.

To date, three fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
