Police DUI stats for the week of April 7-13, 2014

During the week of April 7, 2014, through April 13, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 35 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 387 DUI arrests compared with 385 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 459 major accidents so far this year compared with 381 during the same period last year, an increase of 20.5 percent.

So far this year, there have been four traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, a decrease of 63.6 percent.

To date, three fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (1), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
