New sidewalks are being constructed along both sides of Ainaloa Blvd in Puna. The sidewalks will connect to Highway 130. The County of Hawaii, Department of Public Works Highway Maintenance Division is constructing these sidewalks. They are excavating the roadway shoulders in increments of 500-feet to 1,000-feet, and closing lanes to allow for equipment. The alternating lane closures are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sidewalk completion is scheduled for mid-April 2014 weather permitting.
