Police DUI stats for the week of March 3-9 2014

During the week of March 3, 2014, through March 9, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 30 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 254 DUI arrests compared with 234 during the same period last year, an increase of 8.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 316 major accidents so far this year compared with 256 during the same period last year, an increase of 23.4 percent.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with nine during the same period last year, a decrease of 66.7 percent.

To date, two fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
