The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 5:15 p.m. Sunday (Nov 10).

At 2:06 p.m. weather radar showed heavy showers and thunderstorms along the slopes on the Kona side of the Big Island from Puuanahulu and Honaunau.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Keahole Point, Waikoloa Beach Resort, Waikii, Kailua-Kona, Keauhou and Captain Cook.

Campers and hikers should avoid low lying flood prone areas. People should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. The rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
