Hawaii 24/7 Staff

No charges will be filed against the driver of an SUV involved in a 2010 collision that seriously injured a Big Island doctor.

The county Office of the Prosecuting Attorney announced charges would not be filed against Shakti Stream, who drove her Toyota 4Runner into a vehicle driven by Dr. Theresa Wang.

On Nov. 19, 2010, Stream was driving her vehicle northbound on Queen Kaahumanu Highway when she crossed the center line and struck the Saab operated by Wang.

Wang received serious injuries and spent months at mainland medical and rehabilitation facilities. She still is recovering from her injuries and has not returned to work.

Also injured in the collision, which occurred about three miles north of Kona International Airport, was former UH football standout Colton Brennan, a passenger in the Toyota 4Runner. He spent nearly a week in hospital on Oahu.

Prosecutors declined to pursue charges because there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the charges of Negligent Injury in the First Degree.

Stream, 27 years old at the time, was treated at hospital and released.
