KVBID eyes thematic heritage lighting design

MEDIA RELEASE

Kailua Village Business Improvement District (KVBID) has identified the need to improve public lighting design, particularly within the Historic Kailua Village core along Alii Drive between Palani Road and Walua Road.

“Evening light can have a transformational effect on the appearance and safety of how a sidewalk, street and village are perceived and used,” KVBID President Eric von Platen Luder said. “Certainly nighttime visibility is important for security and safety, but beyond that a great lighting plan relates to all evening functions and echoes a sense of place.”

This RFQ welcomes responses from professional lighting designers who wish to create public streetscapes with enduring qualities that are environmentally supportive to people and the environment.

KVBID hopes to achieve a signature design, unique to Kailua Village known for its history and heritage, colorful seaside vibe and visitor destination.

Proposals are due on or before Dec. 1, 2013.
