MEDIA RELEASE

The new traffic signal at Ane Keohokālole Hwy and Kealakehe Parkway in North Kona is scheduled to be operational Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Flashing lights will prepare motorists for the new signal the day before.

Wireless detectors embedded in the roadway surface will detect cars and trucks approaching the intersection and program the traffic signal to optimize traffic flow.

Ane Keohokalole Highway runs parallel to and about a mile mauka of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway from Palani Road to Hina-Lani Street in Kaloko.

The highway funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act opened to the public in June 2012.
