Flags at half-staff following Washington Navy Yard shooting

MEDIA RELEASE

As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence Monday at the Washington Navy Yard, Gov. Neil Abercrombie has ordered that the flags of the United States and State of Hawaii be displayed at half-staff at all state offices and agencies as well as the Hawaii National Guard until sunset Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

“Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts are with those impacted by today’s tragedy,” Abercrombie said. “As a community that embraces our military and its civilian workers, we keenly feel the loss resulting from such senseless acts against these most valiant patriots.”

President Barack Obama issued a proclamation calling for the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff.
