Police DUI stats for the week of August 26–September 1, 2013

During the week of August 26, 2013, through September 1, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 34 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 854 DUI arrests compared with 938 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 905 major accidents so far this year compared with 985 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.1 percent.

So far this year, there were 21 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 25 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent.

To date, 10 fatalities were related to drugs only (5), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
