Police DUI stats for the week of August 18-25, 2013

During the week of August 18, 2013, through August 25, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 820 DUI arrests compared with 907 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 878 major accidents so far this year compared with 948 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.4 percent.

So far this year, there were 21 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 24 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.5 percent.

To date, eight fatalities were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
