Body recovered from bottom of Kohala cliff

The Fire Department reports it recovered the body of a man Friday evening in the area of “Hapu” near Kapanaia in North Kohala.

Shoreline fisherman reported seeing a body on the shoreline rocks in an area that can only be accessed by four-wheel drive vehicles, according to the Fire Deparment.

Crews from North Kohala arrived shortly before 7 p.m. and confirmed finding a the body of a man between 30 to 40 years of age. The body was 80 feet down a cliff on the rocky shoreline.

An unattended vehicle was found in the area.

Police were called in to investigate incident.

Due to terrain, rescue personnel stationed in Kailua-Kona also responded to assist in the recovery. The body was transported to North Kohala Community Hospital.

The cause of death is listed as unknown.
