Big Island Babes Junior Roller Derby summer session

On June 2, the Big Island Babes Junior Roller Derby league starts its summer session. For eight weeks, ending July 21, practices will be held Sundays at Wainaku gym (30 Aikane Loop).

No experience is required and no cost for new participants. All new skaters are invited to learn the basics, noon-1 p.m. every Sunday. A limited amount of loaner gear also will be available to borrow for the session.

Returning and experienced skaters will practice 1- 3pm. Cost is $50.

All young ladies from the ages of 7-17 are encouraged to come and check out what roller derby is all about.

The Big Island Babes Junior Roller Derby league aims to empower young women, build self esteem, foster leadership skills and personal accountability.

The Big Island Babes Junior Derby creates a sisterhood of skaters and helps them to form positive relationships through respect, sportsmanship and team work. Communication skills are also very important and the skaters will learn positive ways to communicate between themselves as well as with the adults in the league.
