Wind advisory continues for Big Island summits

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the wind advisory for Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea until 6 p.m. Tuesday (May 21).

Winds are forecast to be from the Southwest at 25-35 mph with localized gusts over 50 mph.

A strong area of low pressure several hundred miles North of the state is causing these strong winds. Tradewinds should return Thursday and Friday.

The strong winds can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution while driving. The winds can also forcefully swing doors open or shut so use caution when opening or closing vehicle doors.
