Police DUI stats for the week of April 29 to May 5, 2013

During the week of April 29, 2013, through May 5, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 458 DUI arrests compared with 497 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 451 major accidents so far this year compared with 522 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 12 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 12 during the same period last year.

To date, three fatalities were related to drugs only (1), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
