Big Island attorney Margaret Masunaga met recently with Hawaii Sens. Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz in Washington, D.C. for ABA Day 2013.

The issues supported by the Hawaii delegation include funding for Legal Services Corporation, prompt filling of judicial vacancies, and immigration reform to provide appointed counsel to vulnerable persons and expanding the Legal Orientation Program to help noncitizens’ access to justice, improve immigration court efficiency, and save government resources.

The senators enjoyed Kaijia’s Kookies from the West Hawaii Bar Association.

ABA Day draws state, local and specialty bar leaders to the nation’s capital for the annual “lobby day.” Attorneys are encouraged to participate to help educate the Administration and Congress on issues of importance to lawyers and their clients.
