Tennis: Punahou sweeps state titles

The boys and girls tennis teams of Punahou ruled the courts during the state tournament, which was staged on the Big Island over the weekend.

From Punahou, No. 1 seed Kawika Lam won the boys singles and No. 3 seed Ryan Adachi and McKenna Fujitani won the boys doubles.

In the girls brackets, No. 1 Alyssa Tobita of Mililani won the singles and No. 1 seed Kara Okazaki and Kristen Poei of Iolani won the doubles.

The top Big Island athletes:
Boys singles – No. 4 seed Isaiah Brilhante of Waiakea was third overall
Boys Doubles – No. 4 seed Jake Frogley and Brendan Moynahan of HPA lost in the semifinals
Girls Singles – No. 4 seed Emily Soares of Hilo was knocked out in the semifinals
Girls Doubles – Marissa Hayashi and Leisha Ishikawa of Waiakea made it into the Round of 16
