Fire burns part of home in Hawaiian Acres Sunday (April 28)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:33 a.m. alarm Sunday (April 28) to a structure fire at 15-2712 Nenue St. in Hawaiian Beaches. Firefighters found a single story home with a room addition in the back engulfed in flames. Fire crews were able to have the fire out by 3:55 a.m.

Fire destroys home in Hawaiian Acres Friday (April 26)

Fire/rescue crews answered a 10:47 a.m. alarm Friday (April 26) for a structure fire located in Hawaiian Acres on Road 6 between Roads C and D. Crews found a multi-story home engulfed in flames. Crews used water from a catchment tank to extinguish the blaze and had the fire out by 12:13 p.m.

Hawaiʻi Island police have located 68-year-old Paulo Vakautafefine of Hilo, who was reported missing. He was found a short distance from his Wainaku home at 3:55 p.m. Friday. After paramedics examined him, he was returned to his family.

Morimoto is East Hawaii’s Officer of the Month for April

The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaiʻi recognized Derek Morimoto on Thursday (April 25) as “Officer of the Month” for April. Morimoto, a detective in the Area I Criminal Investigations Section, was honored for spearheading the search for a missing 69-year-old man who was partially blind and in the early stages of dementia.
