Police DUI stats for the week of April 8-14, 2013

During the week of April 8, 2013, through April 14, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 389 DUI arrests compared with 414 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 367 major accidents so far this year compared with 435 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.6 percent.

So far this year, there were eleven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eleven during the same period last year.

To date, three fatalities were related to drugs only (1), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
