Crews knock down Keauhou Surf blaze

Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire early Friday at the Keauhou Surf & Racquet Club on Alii Drive.

The blaze was reported at 1:11 a.m. Friday and brought under control at 2:46 a.m.

Crews arriving at the scene at 1:23 a.m. discovered flames in the attic space, with smoke coming out of the building’s eaves.

A metal roof placed over wood shingles and cedar planks complicated the fire-fighting efforts, although crews were able to pull the metal roof away from the blaze.

Damage was estimated at $90,000.
