Flood advisory for West Hawaii Friday (March 29) is cancelled

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood advisory for the Big Island until 5:45 p.m. this evening. This advisory may be extended if the heavy rains continue.

At 2:36 p.m. weather radar showed heavy rain falling along the Kona slopes between Kailua-Kona and Waikoloa at two-inches-per-hour.

Other locations in the advisory area include, but are not limited to, Waikoloa Village, Waikoloa Beach Resort, Saddle Road Junction, Puuanahulu and Puako areas.

People should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. The rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
