Three-year-old Hilo boy dies after being run over by pick-up truck

MEDIA RELEASE

A 3-year-old Hilo boy died Friday (March 15) from injuries he received after being run over by a pick-up truck in the Eden Roc subdivision in Mountain View.

The boy was identified as Treston S.C. Crowley, of a Hilo address.

Responding to a 3:26 p.m. call, Puna patrol officers determined that the child was playing in a 1993 Dodge pick-up truck when he either put or knocked the shifter into gear.

The vehicle started to roll back in the driveway at which time the boy jumped out and was run over by the vehicle.

The child was taken to the Hilo Medical Center by Fire Rescue personnel where he was pronounced dead at 4:31 p.m.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Being that this death occurred on private property, it is not counted toward the official traffic fatality count.
