Flood advisory issued for Big Island due to heavy rains in Ka‘u

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 5:30 p.m. this evening. At 2:18 p.m. weather radar showed heavy rain near Punaluu which is about 45 miles Southwest of Hilo. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea above 8,000 feet until 6 a.m. Tuesday (April 2). Winds are forecast to be 25-35 mph with localized gusts over 50 mph.

Fire burns Pepeekeo home Saturday morning (March 30)

Fire/rescue crews responded to an 8:09 a.m. alarm Saturday (March 30) to 28-0530 Kulaimano Road in Pepeekeo for a structure fire. Two back bedrooms of the single-story home were heavily damaged by fire which crews had under control by 8:30 a.m. and declared out at 8:45 a.m.

Flood advisory issued due to heavy rains in Kona

The flood advisory was cancelled at noon. The rain showers are moving into the Northern windward coast of the Big Island heading Southeast at about 20 mph. The heaviest rain is affecting the areas from Hawi to Waipio Valley. Drivers should use caution due to ponding and reduced visibility.
