Wind advisory for areas of the Big Island

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for areas of the Big Island until noon today.

The advisory areas include North and South Kohala, Waikoloa, Waimea, Honokaa, Hilo, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Pahala and South Point.

Winds are forecast to be in the 25-35 mph range with gusts up to 45 mph.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution.

A gale warning is in effect for the Alenuihaha Channel until 6 p.m. this evening. The channel will then be under a small craft advisory from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday (Feb 6).

A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for Big Island Leeward and Southeast waters.
