Two people unconscious after pool heater exhaust fails at South Kohala home

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire/rescue units responded to an 11:09 a.m. alarm Sunday (Jan 27) to a Mauna Kea Properties residence in South Kohala for two people passed-out at a possible hazardous material (Hazmat) scene.

Crews found two people in the residence who were unresponsive and got them outside. The Hazmat team was brought in and discovered an exhaust system to the swimming pool heater may have had a mechanical failure.

Crews were able to clear the home of fumes and relieved the cause of the exhaust system problem.

The residents were able to return home after being treated outside.
