Surf meet, high surf may cause Alii Drive delays (Jan. 19)

MEDIA RELEASE

The Office of the Mayor is asking for the kokua of motorists who are driving Saturday along Alii Drive in Kona.

Slight delays are expected because of potential high surf and the annual Shane Dorian Keiki Surf Meet.

The meet will be held all day at Banyan’s surf spot, or nearby Lyman’s surf spot, should the predicted large surf arrive in Kona that morning.

“We commend Shane for holding this event, the 18th annual meet which accepts donations to the Hawaii Food Basket as an entry fee,” Mayor Billy Kenoi said. “Surf will likely be bigger than usual on Saturday, and so we are asking motorists who must use Ali’i Drive to drive with extra aloha.”
