The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for West facing shores of the Big Island from 6 a.m. Sunday (Dec 30) to 6 a.m. Tuesday (Jan 2).
Surf is forecast to rise to six to 10 feet peaking Sunday night and Monday along the Kona-Kohala coast.
The high surf will cause hazardous conditions in the surf zone including deadly rip currents. Shore breaks will make shoreline areas hazardous.
Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and away from shore breaks due to the hazardous wave action.
A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday (Jan 2) for all Hawaiian waters.
