High surf advisory for the Big Island, surf of 10-15 feet forecast

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf warning for North facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui. A high surf warning also for West facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, and Molokai. A high surf advisory for West facing shores of Oahu and North facing shores of the Big Island.

The high surf advisory for the Big Island is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday (Dec 26).

Surf is forecast to be in the 10 to 15 foot range for West facing shores of Oahu and North facing shores of the Big Island peaking around noon Tuesday then lowering through Wednesday morning. The high surf will cause hazardous conditions in the surf zone including deadly rip currents. Battering waves will pound the shoreline.

Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and away from shore breaks due to the hazardous wave action.

A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday (Dec 26) for all Hawaiian waters.
