The broadcast of the 2012 Ironman World Championship presented by myList will re-air 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.

The two-hour show, which will air on NBC highlights the world’s toughest endurance race that took place Oct. 13 in Kailua-Kona.

This year’s broadcast features a special two-part telecast that will encompass the stunning world-class sporting event that is the Ironman World Championship.

The show will take viewers on an all-access experience, unveiling the intense emotion, physical demands and dramatic competition that unfolds each year on the Island of Hawaii.

Throughout the opening segments, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the build-up to race day, with unique perspective from Ironman insiders and professionals that will set the stage and showcase how the male and female pros prepare to tackle the world’s toughest endurance test.

In addition to the top athlete stories, the show will include the following:

* In-depth analysis of the Ironman World Championship that offers a course overview and a swim/bike/run mechanics piece, with voice over by Phil Liggett, to give those who have never been to Kona the chance to experience the excitement and drama that takes place each October.

* Professional male and female athlete interviews, including thoughts from this year’s Ironman world champion Leanda Cave, 2011 Ironman world champion Craig Alexander, 2010 Ironman world champions Chris McCormack and Mirinda Carfrae, along with many others.

* Age-group athlete stories, including thoughts from the 1982 Ironman world champion Kathleen McCartney and runner-up Julie Moss, whose determination to finish the 1982 race by crawling to the finish line inspired millions and the Ironman mantra: Anything Is Possible.

* Kona Inspired athlete stories highlighting how their journeys to reach the start line shaped their race, including a feature on Brady Murray.

The rest of the show takes viewers though the passion and magic of race day as Al Trautwig narrates one of the toughest races in years.

Audiences will get a front-row seat to the amazing come-from-behind win of this year’s Ironman world champion, Pete Jacobs.

Also featured during the second hour will be this year’s professional women’s race, where Leanda Cave became the first female in Ironman history to win the Ironman World Championship 70.3 and Ironman World Championship in the same year.

A fixture on NBC since 1991, the Ironman World Championship broadcast has garnered more than 40 Emmy nominations and has captured 16 Emmy awards along with a number of other accolades.
