DUI stats for the week of November 19–25, 2012

During the week of November 19, 2012, through November 25, 2012, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,335 DUI arrests compared with 1,319 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,316 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,244 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.8 percent.

So far this year, there were 36 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 19 during the same period last year, an increase of 89.5 percent.

To date, 23 fatalities were related to drugs (9), alcohol (4), or a combination of both (10).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
