Fire causes $8,000 damage to abandonded home in Puna Friday (Nov 23)

Firefighters responded to a 4:07 p.m. alarm Friday (Nov 23) to 16-2541 Ainaloa Drive for a structure fire.

Crews found an abandoned home filled with smoke with the fire contained to the closet and bathroom of the master bedroom. Crews had the fire out five minutes after arriving on scene.

Fire dispatch reports that fire investigators along with help from police determined the cause to be an intentionally set fire. The 800 square-foot home with 400 square-foot carport sustained $8,000 in damage with $30,000 spared in the blaze.

There were no injuries and no roadblocks during the firefighting operation.
