Fatal car crash in Kona closes highway Saturday (Oct 20)

Fire/rescue responded to a 1:34 p.m. alarm Saturday (Oct 18) for a vehicle crash in Kona North of the 105 mile marker of Highway 11.

Upon arrival firefights found the body of a 45 year-old man ejected five feet from a Mitsubishi compact car that crashed and flipped over into the North bound lane. The victim suffered head injuries and was dead at the scene. Due to debris, the vehicle and emergency crews on the roadway both lane were  closed for about two hours and detoured through Kealo Keawe Road.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
