Hawaii Artist Collaborative reception & auction (Oct. 21)

MEDIA RELEASE

The second annual Hawaii Artist Collaborative reception and auction is 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 at Holualoa Inn. The combined works of 30 artists from Hawaii Island, Oahu, Australia, England, and the U.S. mainland will be featured.

The theme this year is “Bending the Rules”, with the initial philosophy remaining, “Hoo hui a hoopaa, Olelo no eau” (Bringing together all skillful artists and the talented/wise to gather as a people and stand together).

“The four-day, invitation-only artist collaborative brings together artists representing 14 different media including blacksmiths, fine art painters and sculptors, woodworkers, jewelers, found object assemblage, and Hawaiian artisans. One of the many goals of this gathering is to re-invigorate artists and craftsmen, allowing them to take back a host of new possibilities and connections into the communities they serve the rest of the year,” says Tai Lake, who together with Holualoa artist Cliff Johns organized the event.

The artists worked together Oct. 16-19 in Holualoa, creating numerous pieces of art to be auctioned off at the event Oct. 21.

The Hawaii Artist Collaborative is inspired by established events in Canada and New Zealand with the same goal: to encourage artists to venture outside their usual medium, while sharing their own experience to create new works.

All artworks produced during the collaboration will be offered for sale at the “no reserve” live auction durin gthe reception at Holualoa Inn’s new special events venue, Malulani Pavilion.

Proceeds will fund art scholarships and future collaborative events. Entry to the auction is complimentary.
