Big Island lane closures for the week of October 8-12, 2012

PLEASE NOTE:
Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.
All projects are weather permitting.

— KEAAU-PAHOA ROAD —

1) AINALOA
Alternating single lane closures on Keaau-Pahoa Road in both directions in the vicinity of Ainaloa Boulevard between Milepost Markers 7 and 8, on Tuesday, October 9 through Friday, October 12, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, for roadway excavation and paving work.

— KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD —

1) WAIMEA
Alternating single lane closures on Kohala Mountain Road in both directions between Milepost Markers 2 and 7, in the vicinity of Waiaka Junction, on Tuesday, October 9, through Friday, October 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for pavement resurfacing.

— MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY —

1) WAIKOLOA
Alternating single lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway in both directions between Hina Lani Street and Olda Kona Village Road, on Tuesday, October 9, through Friday, October 12, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, for pavement resurfacing.

— VOLCANO ROAD —

1) MOUNTAIN VIEW
Alternating single lane closures on Volcano Road in both directions between Kukui Camp Road and North Lauko Road on Tuesday, October 9, through Friday, October 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for roadside utility installations.

— SOUTH HILO –

Ohuohu and East Puainako intersection will be an all way stop.

The Ohuohu and East Puainako intersection at the corner of Prince Kuhio Plaza will be converted to an all way stop during the week of Oct. 15-19.

The conversion could occur as early as Tuesday, Oct. 16. There are no road closures.

Special off duty police officers will be directing traffic as traffic patterns will be temporarily altered during the work hours of 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Roadwork is subject to weather conditions.

Stop signs will be installed on East Puainako and turn lanes removed.

Crosswalks on East Puainako will be installed the week of Oct. 8 prior to the conversion of the all way stop.

Motorists are reminded to follow the rules of the road, and whichever vehicle comes to the intersection first has the right of way.

If vehicles approach the intersection at the same time, right of way is to the vehicle on the right.

— HAMAKUA — 

Maintenance on Kaula Gulch Bridge in Ookala begins Oct. 9.

General maintenance on and beneath Kaula Bridge, in Ookala is scheduled to begin Oct. 9.

The work schedule is 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Completion is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 22.

Kaula Gulch bridge is a one lane wooden bridge serving residents along Old Mamalahoa Highway, Milo Street and Ookala Graveyard Road. Residents are asked to use Old Mamalahoa Highway on the Hilo side of Highway 19.

Delays are expected due to the nature of the maintenance.

Bridgework is subject to weather conditions.
