MEDIA RELEASE
More than one dozen exhibitors from across the island will gather Sept. 29-30 in Ahualoa for a festival where the whole family can come see, learn, shop and eat at booths containing totally local products.
From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, Ahualoa Alpacas welcomes the community to join them for many demonstrations, including drop spindle spinning for children, weaving with a deck of cards or a loom, or watching the bees at work in the glass observation hive while learning about the importance of bees to agriculture.
Children of all ages can sink their hands in the different kinds of fleece, from angora to wool, as fiber artists knit, crochet and felt them into hats, scarves and bags.
Families can visit the alpacas, rabbits and lambs whose fiber goes into making the beautiful items available at the booths, and watch the livestock guardian dogs at work.
They can see how woodworkers and other local artists take local materials and create beautiful and functional items.
Local farms will have beef, eggs, lamb, tea and other local products for sale.
Directions: Ahualoa Alpacas is located at 46-3859 Kahana Drive, Honokaa. In Honokaa, turn mauka at Tex’s onto Mauna Loa Rd, then make an immediate right onto Old Mamalahoa Hwy. After four miles, turn left onto Kahana Drive. Drive 1 ½ miles, crossing three white bridges. The property is on the right.
