Fire/rescue crews responded to a 6:18 p.m. alarm Sunday (Sept 23) for a structure fire at a macadamia nut factory in Honaunau.
Crews found smoke coming out of the two-story metal warehouse building’s first floor sampling room. All of the employees had been evacuated and firefighters were able to extinguish a fire in a small macadamia nut roaster oven room.
Damage was estimated to be $80,000 at the factory. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
