By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire/rescue units responded to a 10:36 a.m. alarm Sunday (Sept 23) to Keokea Point in Keaukaha for two people swept into the ocean from the shoreline.

Witnesses reported that a man and boy were on the rocky shoreline off Keokea Loop when they were washed into the ocean by a sudden surge. A bystander on the scene was able to get the nine year-old boy out of the water for treatment by arriving medics for injuries.

The injured man was still in the water when rescue units arrived. The fire department’s Chopper One deployed a fire rescue specialist into the water to assist the man into a Billy Push rescue net. Both the rescue specialist and man were airlifted to shore.

Both victims were treated by medics and were transported to Hilo Medical Center for further treatment of their injuries.
