HELCO has announced at 8:47 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, approximately 4,714 customers in Waikoloa, Waika, and Kuakini areas experienced a power interruption when a HELCO generator tripped off-line unexpectedly.

Other HELCO generating units in reserve were immediately started and service to all affected customers was restored by 8:51 a.m.

The exact cause of the HELCO’s generator trip is still being investigated at this time.

HELCO apologizes for any disruption this may have caused and sincerely thanks customers for their cooperation and understanding.
