County officials and contractors gave the public a look at a conceptual design for the Puna Regional Park Monday (Sept 10) at the Pahoa Neighborhood Facility.

The park would be located above the existing community center and Pahoa Aquatic Center. Survey work is underway.

Mayor Billy Kenoi, Councilman Fred Blas along with contractors met with about 50 members of the public for the presentation which later broke into smaller groups to take in community input on the park’s design.

The ambitious plans call for numerous open play fields for various sports along with covered areas for both court sports and pavillion areas. Parking, restroom and pedestrian walkways were also discussed.

The preliminary master plan was developed from information gathered from the Puna Community Development Plan.

Mayor Kenoi said the plans would be made available on the County’s Parks and Recreation website.
