Police warn motorists about heavy rain and ponding in Waimea Saturday (Sept 8)

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii Police Dept. advises you to AVOID Highway 19 between Lakeland Subdivision and Mana Rd. due to heavy rain, runoff and ponding.

The Waimea area has received heavy rainfall during the last few hours. Much of the rain has been concentrated between Lakeland and Mana Rd. which has caused traffic to backup and move slower than usual. Police are asking motorists to use caution when driving through this area due to unexpected road closures due to flooding. Motorists should not attempt to cross roads that are inundated with water.

While there are no flood advisories at this time, Police are asking to use caution while driving in the Waimea area until about 8:30 p.m.
