‘Red flag’ fire warning for all islands

MEDIA RELEASE

The U. S. Weather Service issued a red flag warning Tuesday, Sept. 4 for all Hawaiian islands.

The warning is for high fire danger because of drought conditions, high temperatures, low humidity, and forecasted strong winds.

The fire danger will be elevated for all islands, especially on the west side of the islands, including the Kailua-Kona and Kohala areas.

Fire Chief Darren Rosario previously said drivers should be cautious about where they park and to avoid parking on dry grass.

He also reminded motorists to not throw cigarettes or any other burning material from cars.
