By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire/rescue crews responed to a 2:01 p.m. alarm Monday (Aug 13) to Puu Waa Waa Forest Reserve for a man injured in an ATV crash.

A 21 year-old man working at the bird sanctuary about seven miles mauka of Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy 190) had a rollover crash in an inaccessible area and suffered facial injuries.

Ground crews using 4-wheel drive vehicles along with Choppers 1 and 2 searched for the victim. The air search was hampered by low clouds and fog in the area. The Chopper 2 crew was able to locate the man who was then treated and flown to North Hawaii Community Hospital in stable condition.
