Democratic grand rally in Hilo (Aug. 10)

Once again the Mooheau Bandstand on Hilo Bay will light up and host the historic Neighbor Island’s Democratic Grand Rally to celebrate the party and its candidates.

More than 30 Democratic hopefuls will attend and face off with one another in Hawaii’s Primary Election on Aug. 11.

Every candidate will have an opportunity to address their supporters, and an uplifting and patriotic program is planned for the evening.

Traditional sign-waving along Kamehameha Avenue will begin at 3:30 p.m., preceding the celebration, which will begin at 5 p.m.; chili will be served, along with some light entertainment.
Confirmed candidates for the evening are as follows:

* U.S. SENATE: Mazie Hirono
* U.S. HOUSE, District 1: Colleen Hanabusa

* U.S. HOUSE, District 2: Rafael del Castillo, Tulsi Gabbard, Mufi Hannemann, Esther Kiaaina, & Bob Marx

* STATE SENATE, District 1: Donald Ikeda, Gil Kahele

* STATE SENATE, District 2: Robert Herkes, Wendell Kaehuaea, Russell Ruderman, & Gary Safarik

* STATE SENATE, District 4: Lorraine Inouye, Malama Solomon,

* STATE HOUSE, District 1: Mark Nakashima, Noralyn Pajimola

* STATE HOUSE, District 2: Cliff Tsuji

* STATE HOUSE, District 3: Brittany Smart, Richard Onishi

* STATE HOUSE, District 4: Faye Hanohano

* STATE HOUSE, District 5: Denny Coffman

* BIG ISLAND MAYOR: Billy Kenoi, Harry Kim, & Dominic Yagong

Also, at least six County Council candidates have confirmed their attendance.
