Sustainability Innovation Challenge Award

MEDIA RELEASE

Sustainability is a journey, not a final destination.

Many Big Island residents have already embarked on the journey and we invite our community to show us the ingenious, creative, and thought provoking products, designs and practices that local Hawaii residents are creating to solve our pressing Sustainability challenges.

Here at One Island, where many creative problem solvers are drawn, we all too often hear “I have this great idea, but ….” or “Why, I thought of that 10 years ago.” Enough with the talk already! Let’s move to action.

We are intentionally challenging our community to turn those great ideas into designs, prototypes, and products that really contribute solutions to our pressing issues.

Our Green Economy goals at One Island include fostering innovation all around us and we are hosting this first-of-its kind local contest to help bring the best ideas forwards. First step – show us your stuff!

CONTEST ENTRIES

All ages on the Big Island are welcome to enter and the three categories for the Sustainability Innovation competition are:

1. Proven, Operating Inventions, Products or Practices
2. Prototypes of Inventions, Products or Practices
3. Designs and Concepts including all media

Inventions can be physical objects, written works, designs, multi-media, visual or healing arts, or behavioral change concept models. You need not be the sole inventor of a product, but must have made a contribution toward designing or modifying it in a way that is an improvement upon the original technology or practice. (If you are using another designer’s product or behavior in an innovative, green way, then that would be considered a Practice.)

Entrants will have the ability to protect proprietary information and only release designated information to the public.

Sponsors are also welcome to request a Sponsorship information packet by emailing hawaii@one-island.org
