The Seattle Seahawks have signed center Max Unger to a multi-year extension, the team announced Wednesday.

“(Head Coach Pete Carroll) and I are excited to lock up a young core leader on our offense,” said General Manager John Schneider. “Max’s consistent and professional approach to his job transcends the locker room and the huddle.”

Seattle drafted Unger, a 2004 Hawaii Prep graduate, in the second-round (49th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft and he has started all 32 games played.

“I am very happy about this new deal,” Unger said. “We have a developing young line that had some success last year that we can build upon this season. It’s a good deal for the both of us and I couldn’t be happier to be in Seattle.”

Last season, he started all 15 games played and anchored the line that ranked fifth in the NFL with 1,212 rushing yards and helped Marshawn Lynch lead the league with 941 rushing yards over the last nine weeks of the season.
