Waimea Artists’ Guild hosts Orme for printmaking (July 23-27)

MEDIA RELEASE

A rare opportunity to work with one of Hawaii’s most admired artists, Waimea Artists’ Guild presents Harinani Orme, teaching a five-day printmaking session.

Class will meet daily 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with a one-hour break, July 23-27.

Orme is a native Hawaiian artist who earned her BFA degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and MFA at the Pratt Institute in New York.

“It was in New York that my art teachers inspired me to pass on what I had learned. As a result, I have taught art classes in New York, California, Arizona, Alabama and Hawaii,” she said. “Currently, my works focus on the myths, legends, and cultural identity of contemporary and ancient Hawaii.”

“I believe the process of making art connects and encourages us to explore and experiment,” said Orme. “Art gives new perspective, it inspires, it communicates, it records, it conveys emotion, it nourishes, it celebrates and fills the soul. It is how we find our voice, it is what we do, it is not an option, it is who we are.”

Cost for the class is $300 which includes all materials. Limited space is available on a first come, first served basis. To register, call 887-2289.

WAG is an association of professional artists whose intent is to produce art and promote education in their community. A project of The Pantry 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, WAG is located in the industrial complex adjacent to Mama’s House thrift store, just past NAPA Auto.
