Wind and small craft advisories for the Big Island and Maui

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for Haleakala above 6,000 feet along with Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea above elevations of 8,000 feet until 6 p.m. this evening (July 16).

Winds are from the Southeast at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. These strong winds can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles, drivers should use caution.

A small craft advisory is in effect for Maalaea Bay, the Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels, Big Island Leeward and Southeast waters until 6 a.m. Thursday (July 19).
