Maui Roller Girls and Garden Island Renegade Rollers were the big winners Friday evening at the Battle of the Islands roller derby tournament.

Battle of the Islands is a biannual event featuring teams and players from all the Hawaiian Islands. Friday’s tournament was the very first Battle of the Islands, hosted by Paradise Roller Girls.

The tournament featured seven teams on two tracks at Edith Kanakaole Stadium.

Featured Teams:
Pacific Roller Derby Hulagans
Maui Roller Girls
Paradise Roller Girls Honey Badgers
Echo City Roller Girls (Kona)
Maui Owies
Bee Team (all islands)
Garden Island Renegade Rollers (Kauai)

Maui topped Pacific in the 3-Team Double Elimination final, 119-69.

That bracket also included hosts Paradise Roller Girls, who were good enough to defeat Pacific in the first bout of the day. However, Maui and Pacific handed them their two losses and they were out of the final.

In the 4-Team Tournament, Echo City Roller Girls were knocked into the consolation bracket by Garden Island Renegade Rollers, who went on to beat Bee Team in the final, 98-24.

Echo City ended the day with a win against Maui Owies and headed back to Kona with a third place finish.
